Guest Speaker: Emma Atkinson  ‘The Q Train, The Sunlander to Q Train  - A Renovators Delight’
Emma has worked in the district for 20 years in various areas and was pleased and interested when she became involved with this project.
The train ran between Brisbane and Cairns with the trip taking from 45 to 32hours. The train provided dining, passenger and at least two classes of sleeping facilities in the service, which stopped in 2014. The train was stored in Queensland for 18 months then moved by low loader carriage by carriage to Queenscliffe. Hours of cleaning were needed, as were extensive renovations. The owners have been very involved with these processes. Partnerships have been formed with local businesses to provide local produce, maintenance and fittings as well as workers.
Movement of the Q train and the Blues Train is coordinated.
There are currently three services a week with plans to increase this to five next year. First class private compartments have been created to allow for private group bookings and romantic escapes.
The cost in the Restaurant is $119 and $159 in 1stclass
